Re: Cancellation of health insurance policy

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please confirm the cancellation in writing and stop collecting premiums from that date. If any premium has been paid in advance for the period after the end date, please refund it.

Yours faithfully,

What to look out for

  • If you are taking out a new policy, start it before this one ends — a gap in cover can mean existing conditions are excluded from the new policy.
  • If you are part-way through treatment, ask in writing what will and will not be covered after the end date.
  • Have an outstanding claim? Submit it before the end date and keep a copy.
  • Cancel any add-ons such as dental or travel cover separately if they are held under a different policy number.

FAQ

Can I cancel part-way through the year?
Usually yes, subject to the notice period in your policy. Check your policy documents, as some premiums are payable for the full year.
Will I lose cover for a condition if I switch insurer?
Possibly. New policies often exclude pre-existing conditions, so ask the new insurer in writing what will be covered before you cancel.
