End an energy contract
Useful when you are moving home or switching supplier. Give your meter readings so the final bill can be produced straight away.
What to look out for
- If you are on a fixed-term tariff, an exit fee may apply if you leave early.
- Always submit meter readings, and take a dated photo as proof. Without readings your final bill will be estimated.
- Moving home? Give your forwarding address, otherwise the final bill will not reach you.
- If you have a credit balance, ask for it to be refunded rather than carried over.
FAQ
- Do I need to cancel myself if I am switching supplier?
- Usually not — your new supplier arranges the switch. Write only if you are stopping without a new supplier, or if you have been asked to confirm in writing.
- How quickly should I get the final bill?
- Suppliers normally issue it within a few weeks of the end date. This letter asks for it based on the readings you have given.
