Appeal against dismissal
Been dismissed and disagree with it? This letter objects promptly and in writing, and keeps your position open.
What to look out for
- Act quickly. Time limits for employment tribunal claims are short and strict, so get advice straight away from Acas, your union or Citizens Advice.
- Never sign a settlement agreement without taking advice first.
- Check your employer's disciplinary and dismissal procedure and use any internal appeal route it gives you.
- Say that you remain available for work — as this letter does — as that supports a claim for wages.
- Send by recorded delivery: the date of your objection can matter legally.
FAQ
- How quickly do I need to object?
- As soon as possible. Internal appeal deadlines are usually only a few days, and tribunal time limits are short and strictly applied — contact Acas early to check where you stand.
- Do I need a solicitor?
- Not for this letter, but for the dispute itself get proper advice from a solicitor, your union, Acas or your legal expenses insurer.
